Lockport is a city in Will County in the metro Chicago area in the Des Plaines River valley. Once an important shipping point on the Illinois and Michigan Canal. In 1974 Lockport residents began calling their area “The Old Canal Town”. The community was known for the industrial plants and refineries in the area until the Texaco refinery closed in the 1980’s. Now the area is bringing strip malls, as well a new housing developments coming.
